Day 12 - NYC to Port Jervis Day 13 - The River
Karl batized and I confirmed the four of our children that were with us. It was a very good experience and Karl and I enjoyed going to the 5th floor to pick up the recorded names.
Karl then went across town to get a rental car while the youth and I headed for the hotel. We ate lunch in the room, changed and finished last minute packing. I then went to get the car. It was at the front of the pile waiting for me and they charged us less than they quoted us on Saturday so even with taxes and tips, we paid less than 50$ a day to park it. It took me 25 mintes to drive to the hotel (1 block in the wrong direction on a oneway street.) We packed the cars and headed out. It took us another 45 minutes to get out of the city (on the George Washington Bridge.) And we headed to Port Jervis, NY (with refooding stop at a Costco in Whartton, NJ.)
We found their hotel and our campground without problem, got the tent set up, got rained on, eat dinner, swam and did laundry. It was a great (but stressful at times) day.
We got up early the next morning (today) ate and broke camp (not setting any records!) We met Karl at 9:30 at the Silver Canoe and headed for the Delaware River. We took one raft, five kayaks and 0 pictures! We floated for almost four hours and had a great time. The kids loved the kayaks and floating in the river and there were a few bumpy spots to keep everyone interested.
We got away from the river much later than expected, but still stopped in Harmony, PA to see where the priesthood was restored. We stood on the banks of the river where it is believed Joseph and Oliver baptized eachother (and the kids skipped stones.)
We, finally arrived in Palmyra at 9:30 at night and found our campsite at the county fair grounds. We are neighbors to a youth conference from Michigan (200 people.) We got our tent up and had the kids in bed before 11pm. Another great (and hectic) day.
Yesterday we traveled 98 miles and today another 368 miles. We purchased gas today for $2.95, but milage was way down due to the city (we hope.)
