Day 17 - Kirtland

Interesting day today... We started at the Euclid Ward meetings in the Kirtland Stake Center. This ward had been created last week and today was its first meetings. It was entertaining watching them try and figure out who the young men were to handled the sacrament and all of the major organizations had their presidencies sustained today (include the second counselor in the YW who hadn't been called yet!) The bulk of the meeting was testimonies from the new presidents of all of the organizations and the meeting was really quite good. Afterwards, we drove over to the Kirtland Visitors Center, changed clothes and ate lunch. After lunch, we visited the Mormon Tabernacle Choir exhibit and then headed to the temple.

The Kirtland Temple is owned by the Community of Christ and for $2 per person you can take a tour. The tour was well done and the guide was aware that the whole group was LDS. He did a very good job and we enjoyed being in that temple and seeing the places where history had occured.

From there, we headed back to the visitors center and toured the N.K. Whitney store and the Johnson Inn. I was particularly interested to sit in the room where the school of the prophets was held ( a very small room.) We also made a quick stop at the Morley Farm.

Then, it was off to Sandusky. I think that the kids are still in the dark about tomorrow. We found our campground without problem and it is huge (more than 500 sites) but we don't feel crowded and have nice restrooms/showers (the real measure.)

We traveled 88.7 miles today.
