The Route

After some tweaking this week, the route and stops plan is mostly complete. In general, we are traveling east on I-70 and west on I-80. We will pick up Alan from scout camp in Goblin Valley at lunchtime on June 29th and spend our first night near Grand Junction, CO. On subsequent days, we camp in Kansas, Missouri, with friends in Ohio and then to Richmond, VA, where we will stay with the Chris Hamson family.

After three days in the Richmond/DC area, we head for New York City for three days. In the Big Apple, we are staying in a hotel and will enjoy the Big City. We leave NYC for a river adventure at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. After a stop in Harmony, PA, we camp at Palmyra, NY for two nights, visiting LDS Church sites in the area and seeing the Hill Commorah Pagent.

Then, it is back to hotels for two nights as we explore Niagara Falls and Kirtland, Ohio. By now, we are on I-80 and headed west. We will make a stop, camping for two nights in Sandusky, Ohio, before heading to Nauvoo, IL for two nights, camping in a downtown campground that has gotten good reports. Then, it is the run for home with a night near Winter Quarters in Omaha, NE and a night in Wyoming.

All told, 12 nights camping, 5 nights with family/friends and 5 nights in hotels. The trip is expected to put a little more than 5500 miles on our van which makes the fuel budget account for a full 1/2 of the total budget for the trip.

Meanwhile, food planning is underway... Stay-tuned!
